  • Sometimes snakes or frogs

They hunt from the sky, diving fast and catching prey with their claws.

 Fun facts

  • Peregrine falcons are the fastest animals on Earth.

  • Falcons have been used in hunting for over 4,000 years.

  • Unlike hawks, falcons kill with their beaks, not their feet.

  • Some falcons migrate thousands of kilometers between breeding and feeding grounds.

  • Falcons can see eight times better than humans.

 Importance to Humans

Positives:

  • Help control pest birds in cities and farms

  • Used in falconry, a respected hunting tradition

  • Studied in aerodynamics and flight design

  • Symbol of power and focus in many cultures

Negatives:

  • May be captured illegally for trade or sport

  • In rare cases, may damage property while nesting

 Health & common issues

Falcons in the wild or captivity need proper care and attention.

Common Health Problems:

  • Wing injuries from power lines or accidents

  • Parasites like mites or worms

  • Malnutrition if not fed correctly

  • Stress from pollution or noise in cities

Veterinary Needs:

  • Safe, clean environment

Conservation Status

Some falcon species are protected, while others are still common.

  • Peregrine Falcons once declined due to pesticides but are now recovering

  • Habitat destruction and illegal hunting remain threats

  • Falcons are protected by wildlife conservation laws in many countries

Efforts include:

  • Falcon breeding programs

  • Nesting site protection

  • Bans on harmful chemicals like DDT
