President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aibu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
Professor Aliyu takes over from Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently stepped down from the position as he prepares to pursue the 2027 governorship race in Adamawa State.
In a related development, the President also approved the renewal of the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.
Both appointments are to take effect immediately.
Aliyu Expected to Strengthen PTDF
Professor Aliyu is widely regarded as an accomplished academic and experienced administrator, with a background that spans research, higher education, and institutional management.
His appointment is seen as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader effort to strengthen strategic institutions in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, while also deepening capacity building and human capital development within the energy industry.
According to a statement issued by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President expects the new PTDF boss to bring his expertise to bear in repositioning the agency for greater relevance in innovation, skills development, and strategic support for national energy goals.
TCN MD Gets Fresh Mandate
President Tinubu also renewed the tenure of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz after what the Presidency described as a positive review of his performance and leadership at the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
During his time in office, Abdulaziz has been credited with overseeing progress in areas such as grid stability, expansion of transmission infrastructure, and broader modernisation of the national transmission system.
His leadership has also extended beyond Nigeria, particularly through his involvement in regional electricity cooperation under the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
Tinubu Charges Appointees on Service Delivery
The President urged both Professor Aliyu and Engineer Abdulaziz to carry out their duties with integrity, commitment, and patriotism, in line with the objectives of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
